GREUBEL FORSEY LIMITED EDITION CARBON MODELS - SEPTEMBER 2023 NEWS

Greubel Forsey Exclusive New Carbon Timepieces

Recently, Greubel Forsey announced the spectacular unveiling of its very first carbon creations for the Geneva Watch Days. These exclusive new models, the Balancier Convexe S2 and the Double Balancier Convexe, come in slimmer case diameters and will only be available between 2023 and 2026.

Greubel Forsey has studied the carbon material for many years, as it gives their exquisite timepieces complex, architectural shapes, with the highest level of watchmaking finishes. Working with this material is an exercise that requires patience and technical mastery - both of which are exemplified in these magnificent new designs.

Greubel Forsey Balancier Convexe S2: Two Exclusive Carbon Additions

The Balancier Convexe S2 is redesigned in a more compact carbon case, and presented in two very limited series of only 22 pieces each. Emphasis is placed on the technicality of carbon, the excellence of its finishes, and an unprecedented diameter of 41.5mm.

Each case is individually enhanced by the arrangement of its fibres, controlled by Greubel Forsey to create the perfect profile. A three-dimensional dial of unparalleled complexity is embedded in a case that hugs the wrist perfectly.

For its carbon version, the new Balancier Convexe S2 has stuck to traditional finishes for the case, lugs, and crown. The bezel and lugs alternate between matte and grained finishes, while the crown asserts a bold matte finish including the iconic ‘GF’ initials.

Between 3 and 4 o’clock is the double open-worked ‘arched’ bridge. Its train of wheels below seems somehow suspended as if in a void. With its patent filed in 2019, the bridge has also become one of Greubel Forsey’s aesthetic signatures. It embodies a very powerful, creative vision of fine watchmaking.

The 303-part movement delivering a 72-hour chronometric power reserve has a perfectly defined architecture, with three large hand-decorated bridges on the movement size. The relief engraving on the 3D barrel cover blends seamlessly into the redesigned case.

This new timepiece incorporates satin to matte finishes as well as relief engraving , all complementing the natural work of the carbon fibres that Greubel Forsey has taken care to match with the converging lines of the convexe case.

This timepiece has a considerably more modern feel, and is offered in two versions each with strong assertive character. The first features a dominant iridescent green finish, with numerous rich blue hues to the main bridge incorporating the power reserve display, as well as the mainplate and the hour ring. This is complemented by a rubber strap in the same tone, creating a fresh feel and reinforcing the signature brand’s contemporary commitment.

The second version brings black to the fore, asserting the timepiece’s elegant simplicity. The carbon fibre weaves a homogeneous, decidedly contemporary configuration. By contrast, the salient feature that stands out most is the hand-finished movement, with its mirror polishing, sharp internal angles, straight and circular-grained surfaces, and curved hands with luminescent tips.

In both the green and black versions, the Double Balancier’s calibre exudes technicality and precision. In this unprecedented compact version with a diameter of 42.5, only 22 pieces will be produced in each variation of the Double Balancier Convexe carbon, with the first available in 2023.
